The Nexus Network Journal is pleased to announce a Call for Papers

Architecture and Mathematics in Palladio’s Century: A Tribute to Carl and Sally Gable

Guest Editor: Stephen R. Wassell, American University of Malta

Palladio portrait

In 1989 Mr. and Mrs. Carl I. Gable purchased Palladio’s Villa Cornaro, becoming only the sixth family to occupy the villa since its construction in the 1550s. With the sale of the villa in 2017, Carl and Sally have closed a chapter on their Palladian adventure, and this special issue of the NNJ is in honor of their 28 years of truly exemplary stewardship.

The Call for Papers can be downloaded at: CFP-The Palladio Century

Rather than focusing solely on Palladio’s villas, or even on his architecture in general, the theme of this special issue encompasses architecture and mathematics of the 1500s. Topics of interest include:

• Analysis of Palladio’s work, including his treatises;
• Discussion of Palladio’s design theory in relation to the zeitgeist of the cinquecento;
• Sixteenth century architecture and mathematics outside of Italy, even outside of Europe, that can help inform us about Palladio’s influence in subsequent centuries;
• Key figures and ideas of the 1500s, including in the fields of music, astronomy, geometry, perspective, etc., in terms of the relationship between architecture and mathematics.

  • Deadline for submissions for review: June 1, 2018.
  • Notification of outcome/acceptance: August 1, 2018.
  • Deadline for submission of final manuscript: October 1, 2018.

Guidelines for manuscript preparation can be found on the NNJ website:
