Maria Zack received her undergraduate degree and doctorate in mathematics from the University of California, San Diego. Her research interests include the history of mathematics, the intersection of mathematics and architecture, and the philosophy of higher education. She has worked on the research staff of the Institute for Defense Analysis and is currently the Chair of the Department of Mathematical, Information and Computer Sciences at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California, USA. In her spare time she volunteers with the Medical Benevolence Foundation traveling internationally to help strengthen indigenous health care systems in developing nations. She presented "Are There Connections Between the Mathematical Thought and Architecture of Sir Christopher Wren?" at Nexus 2006 in Genoa, and "Robert Hooke's Fire Monument:Architecture as a Scientific Instrument" at Nexus 2008 in San Diego. She was co-director of Nexus 2008.
